If you update to Windows 10 after July 29 prominent – Personal Computer Magazine

From the end of July it is no longer possible to upgrade your Windows 7 machine, or 8.1 to Windows 10. We can, however, imagine that you might still want to do later. But how do you ensure that you can upgrade for free after July 30?
 
 

For the activation and registration of Windows 10 is stored in Microsoft’s hardware configuration of your machine in a database. Since the latest version of Windows 10, it is also possible to import your existing Windows 7 or 8.1 license key and activation code. You have to do only once, after which your computer can always be reinstalled with that code.

In this workshop we tell you what you need to activate Windows 10 already on your system without you actually install it permanently. You at least need a valid Windows 7 or 8.1 code. In addition, you also need a separate USB drive with at least 4GB and a separate hard drive.

Download the first Windows Media Creation Tool https://www.microsoft.com/nl-nl/ software download / Windows 10. Insert your USB stick into the computer and start the configuration tool. Choose the option “Install Media to create another PC. The tool asks for the version of Windows 10 you want to make a USB stick: 32-bit or 64-bit. Preferably you choose the 64-bit version. In the next step, select “USB flash drive. The latest installation version of Windows 10 is now put on your USB stick

Once your USB stick is finished you have the latest version of Windows 10 on the USB stick. Which stick you later use to install Windows 10 on the loose hard drive

It moreover does not matter if the loose hard disk is not the same disk that you want to install Windows 10 ended permanently. According to the activation data of Windows, there are some parts of your computer that you just can change without affecting the activation of Windows itself. The hard drive is one of them, but that goes for the graphics card (if applicable) and memory. Only if your motherboard and processor is replaced, the chance that Windows 10 again asks for activation.

The next step is to the computer or laptop when you already want to enable Windows 10 to open. You’ll go to the existing hard drive to disconnect the SATA port and join the loose hard drive on it. In the bios of your computer you may need to still indicate that you want to boot from that drive, in many systems, you can also call up a boot menu with the F10 key.

Start your computer once from the USB stick, you can start the installation of Windows 10. The installation will then detect the loose hard drive and wanting to install Windows 10. When the computer starts up again, the Windows 10 installation process is further completed and will be asked to input a key. Here you can now enter the Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 key from your own computer. If Windows 10 has an Internet connection, your computer will be activated immediately.

Then go to Windows Explorer and click with the right mouse button on My computer and select Properties. Then you go to Windows activation, the bottom of the screen, and click on the activation link Windows. You can now change the Product button to enter your Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 code

You can now turn off the computer and the loose hard disk and USB stick disconnect again. Close all internal hard disk again. Then you start Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 on as usual. If you decide later to finally make the transition to Windows 10, you can upgrade for free and you can choose a completely clean install using the previously created USB stick, or choose to upgrade over your existing Windows 7 or 8.1 version.
