Satellite captures dust particles from outside the galaxy at Saturn – NU.nl

Our solar system travels through the cloud while it orbits the nucleus of the galaxy.

Space Dust created when stars die. Such particles have already been found, but the satellite Cassini has measured for the first what they are made.

According to the European Space Agency include the particles of ice, but from elements such as magnesium, silicon, iron and calcium. The particles contain strikingly little sulfur and carbon. That could give scientists a picture of the evolution of the universe.

The particles have a speed of 72,000 kilometers per hour. Because they move so fast, they are not caught by the gravitational pull of the sun and Saturn
