The acquisition of WhatsApp by Face-off appears to have had on the number of monthly active users of the messaging no effect. That has grown to 600 million active people worldwide, so does director Jan Koum announced via Twitter.

“Purely just curious.” That was in February, the reply of Minister Ronald Plasterk of the Interior on why he left the popular messaging service WhatsApp for competitors Telegram. And he was not alone. Many users of WhatsApp made in those days the move. Shortly before Facebook announced that it had in fact WhatsApp for $ 19 billion had taken over (13.8 billion euros) and users feared that it would go out of their privacy.

But now we also have half a year at the expense shows that WhatsApp will not notice it. In the past four months, the number of monthly active users increased by 100 million worldwide. Growth has remained almost unchanged since the spring of 2013, when first brought WhatsApp users figures in public.

Active Users
Telegram latest figures indicate that the service has 35 million users. But that figure is not comparable with the figures of WhatsApp, because it says nothing about the number of active users. WhatsApp supports all the app at least once a month use among active users.

The Chinese Wechat state with more than 400 million active users in second place in the list of most popular message apps in the world. Japanese Line has over 400 million registered users. Viber (100 million active users) and Tango (70 million active users) follow.

Reputation
Facebook has not the best reputation when it comes to privacy. The social networking site gets a lot of criticism because it maintains a record of the user, such as age, location, gender and preferences. Many users fear that this will also happen with WhatsApp. The creators of Telegram (and many other alternative apps) say is correct to focus on the protection of private data.

Facebook seems to be, however, more time stabbing her own messaging, Facebook Messenger. The standard chat feature is salvaged from the Facebook application, so users must download if they want to continue chatting.
