Skeleton of mammoth Monty auctioned for 238,000 euros – The Standard

between 30,000 to 50,000 years old skeleton of a mammoth from the Ice Age was sold for more than 238,000 euros converted. What the anonymous buyer skeleton of ‘Monty’ plans could auction Summers Place in the English Billingshurst not say.

The bones of the skeleton of the mammoth, which in life and well-being must have weighed six tons, come from an Eastern European private collection and were saved because of the size of the beast in separate parts. The auction house had publicly sought for a name for the skeleton and eventually chose Monty.

There was interest from around the world, both from the private and museums, Summers Place announced. “Although mammoths not as rare as the skeletons of a dinosaur, it is not often that a nearly complete skeleton can be bought,” said curator Errol Fuller.

Also, a more than 30 centimeters egg of an elephant bird found a new owner. A Chinese museum bought it for 88,300 euros converted. According to Summers Place are well preserved eggs of the extinct bird for centuries the most expensive physics trophies.
