Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4 makes smartphones file disappointing – Techzine

The fourth generation of Gorilla Glass can survive a fall, as we can see from a video announcement from Corning. Also Gorilla Glass 4 twice as strong as its predecessor.

Corning Gorilla Glass 4 puts big steps and we have something to really look forward to. The glass is resistant to fall on hard surfaces and thus be smartphones that its features are much more durable. Many major manufacturers are using Gorilla Glass and it therefore seems a matter of time before the first smartphones to provide them.

In the development of Gorilla Glass 4 have examined hundreds of employees of Corning broken screens. The conclusion, perhaps not surprisingly, is that the screens break most often when the smartphones with a speed fall on a hard surface.

In the drop tests do Gorilla Glass 4 survive about 80 percent of the challenges . A device is then subjected to one meter in height and with an angle of 180 degrees to the vagaries of gravity. The rate is about double of Gorilla Glass 3 and alternatives. Also Gorilla Glass 4 is not perfect, but it is a huge step.

According to Corning there are no disadvantages to Gorilla Glass 4, for example, the company was able to achieve the same degree of transparency. If the glass would have been less transparent, the underlying screen would be less visible or the backlight higher, the battery time is not beneficial.

Gorilla Glass 4 is already shipped with manufacturers, the upcoming months of the first devices of the glass will be provided.
