Customers of Tele2 with a 2G or 3G device after 1 February a new subscription or their current subscription, renew, be partly disconnected from the network. Tele2 stops from that moment on, with a large part of the support for these devices.
Subscribers can from that moment on, no longer able to make calls, send text messages or surf the internet. Answering a call or sending a sms text message continues to be possible. The provider promises customers in advance to warn that the adjustment is coming. The change applies emphatically not for people where nothing to the subscription changes.
3G for T-Mobile
Tele2 rents network capacity from T-Mobile to 2G and 3G support. In addition, it must have its own 4G network. That brings extra costs and the company wants off as soon as possible. According to Tele2, take in addition, the number of customers with such a device.
It comes to older smartphones that are not 4G support and cheap phones where you only can call and sms.
A spokesman for Tele2 says that this is the right time to the convert button. “We sell since 2014 only devices with 4G. In addition, in our terms and conditions that you are being connected to a 4G network. We focus on fast internet with large databundels. If that not fits you is Tele2 may not be the best network for you.”
iPhone 5
Tim Wijkman, smartphone analyst at research firm Telecompaper, agrees. “Tele2 focuses very clearly on people who easily access the internet and large databundels. The vast majority of Dutch people also already have a 4G device.”
Where Tele2 may suffer from can get is a group of Dutch people who have an iPhone 5. The device supports 4G, but will not work on the network of Tele2. “That can still pose a problem”, thinks Wijkman.
