Thirty students from TU Delft have Sunday in California, the overall classification of the prestigious ‘SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition’ organised by the famous entrepreneur Elon Musk (founder of, among others, PayPal, Tesla and SpaceX). More than a year and a half ago, Tim Houter (student mechanical engineering) with a few other TU delft students to the project, that there are now 28 teams from all countries were defeated.
moving forward
“The Hyperloop is a future transsportmiddel, where you in a capsule through a vacuum tube is to be driven,” explains team leader Houter to Metro. “As a result, there is almost no air resistance, giving you incredible high speeds can pick up.”
The winner in terms of speed took over the stretch of 1.2 kilometres to 94 kilometres per hour. The TU Delft remained with his prototype there, just one kilometer away at the back, but that should be no disgrace to be called. “For us it was the Final run for the first time that we are in the vacuum environment at such a speed through the tube are gone, so that was pretty exciting.”
Last year, second
The team of the TU Delft last year, was already second, but yet it is not so that the university, by default, a team afvaardigt. The expensive journey, the students had to see for yourself to compensate. “We have everything arranged by themselves to find partners. They get their contribution back through exposure."
The victory which, except the title is not directly a price is bound to see the Houter especially if a good boost for the technology. “The Hyperloop will now continue to develop.”
Dimensions
At this point, the Hyperloop of the TU Delft, there is already quite polished. He is about 4.5 meters long, one meter high, and weighs 149 pounds. The match was taken in a relatively short tube. The expectation is that the protoype of the TU Delft over a long distance of 1200 kilometres per hour could travel.
