Cyanogen stops with CyanogenOS for phones – Computer Idea

The company Cyanogen stops with the well-known Cyanogen OS. The company always made their own version of Android, which to many fans was very popular. Fortunately, you can CyanogenMod still continue to use it.

Cyanogen is a company that was born from CyanogenMod, a custom rom for Android. CyanogenMod is a custom version of Android, initially by a number of hobby ists was made. Later, as the company Cyanogen from established, that CyanogenOS made. That is something else than CyanogenMod, because CyanogenOS is a complete operating system that on a number of phones is installed by default. So CyanogenOS on the OnePlus One.

Updates and betas

The company stops with that last one. At 31 december there are no new services, and nightlies for the operating system. With ‘services’ mean Cyanogen updates for the OS. The operating system is no longer safe to use, because holes not be filled by the developer. The ‘Nightlies’ are beta versions of the operating system, with new features. Also that will not be released.

Unsafe?

That is in practice not mean that all phones that are on CyanogenOS running also immediately unsafe. Some manufacturers may choose to self-updates, or that someone else to do it for them. Yet you do well to pay attention to when you CyanogenOS running (for example, if you have a OnePlus One), because it could just be that that will not safe anymore.

CyanogenMod

It is also possible to use CyanogenMod. That is a ‘custom ROM’ that you manually on your phone, you can install, though that process is not always easy. CyanogenMod is mostly by hobby ists, and in many cases still be safe – provided you have the latest updates.

It’s been a while bad with Cyanogen. OnePlus, one of the largest customers of the company, halted the collaboration last year because of the new phones, switched to its own operating system. Then there were a lot of redundancies in Cyanogen, and had, among others, the ceo resigned. It turned out to be difficult to make a profit with the software.
